The deep cuts, which went into effect on January 1, 2014, reduce the Medicare home health benefit by a massive 14 percent. This will affect thousands of seniors in all states who are currently served by a home health agency (HHA) that will likely be forced to close due to net loss. Many of these agencies are located in poor, rural areas and serve a vulnerable senior and disabled population.
Medicare home health beneficiaries are some of the oldest, poorest and sickest Medicare patients. Unless these unprecedented cuts are corrected, access to vital home health services for 1.5 million seniors will be threatened.
